Community Options is excited to offer a preschool program designed for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Apraxia or Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that impacts the ability to speak clearly. Children with Apraxia need frequent, intensive practice to improve their speech. This preschool program is the first of its kind in Alberta and focuses on the unique and specific needs of children with this diagnosis. Programming & PhilosophyThe Apraxia Preschool ProgramAt TAPP, we offer a classroom environment thoughtfully designed to celebrate the strengths of children with apraxia, while providing targeted support for their unique challenges. Our program delivers evidence-based treatment for Childhood Apraxia of Speech, including frequent one-on-one sessions with a Speech-Language Pathologist, enhanced pre-literacy instruction, and small class sizes. Our play-based approach fosters confidence and encourages children to use their voices in exciting new ways. Our Speech-Language Pathologists are trained in a range of motor-based interventions for Childhood Apraxia of Speech and provide specialized therapy grounded in current evidence-based practice. This individualized support often includes one-on-one speech therapy up to three times per week. |
